Petting animals while having a cup of coffee or tea is a wonderful phenomenal in Asia and many cafés there thrive on this concept. While you can pet owls in Tokyo or cuddle dogs in Bau House in Seoul, cat cafés are still the most popular. A few years ago the first cat café opened in Amsterdam and since then, different cities in The Netherlands have followed, one of them is Pebbles Kitty Cat Café in Rotterdam. I haven’t visited any cat cafes in Asia, but only the one in Amsterdam. Curious to find out more about this new cat café, I decided to check it out.
At many cat cafes you have to reserve a time slot and pay an entrance fee. At Pebbles this is the same, but you can stay as long as you want! While we entered the café, we had to go through two doors to make sure the cats won’t escape!
Before entering the second door we had to wash our hands. The place was quite spacious and it looked like a big cozy living room. You can sit on a couch, bench or at a table and also read books about cats. For the cats there are different places for them to lie down and different toys to play with. It’s not only a cat paradise, but a paradise for cat lovers! There are eight different cats that have come from different shelters in the neighborhood. The cats are very friendly and playful and sometimes lazy, like every cat. My friend and I got a table near the window.
We came during winter time and besides their normal menu of warm and cold drinks and savory and sweet bites, they had a special menu with warm wintery choco drinks. We took one of these and also tried out two of their delicious cakes. During our stay, we saw all the cats lying down and walking around. They were really curious and sometimes sniffled at someone’s coat or scarf.
If you ordered food, keep an eye on it , or else the cats might want to try and take a bite of it. I was surprised they were this friendly, because at the Cat Café in Amsterdam I found them a bit aggressive. The cats at Pebbles don’t mind if you pet them or play toys with them. When they are asleep it’s not allowed to touch them, but that’s logical.
I really like Pebbles Kitty Cat Café! This place is really spacious so there is enough room for the cats and for all the visitors to hang around. It is really a place where you can hang out all day if you want.
While you want to visit the café you have to pay an entrance fee of 3,50 euros. It is recommended to reserve a time in advance. When you are inside, you can stay as long as you want. Besides coming for a coffee break, you can also have a high tea there, and participate at the many events they organize, like a night of yoga while surrounded by loving cats, a lecture from a cat psychologist, a gamenight, or a pub quiz. Check their website below to see what kind of awesome things they have.
