Do you remember the times that your mother was baking something and you really wanted to lick up the unbaked dough? That is the same dough we are talking about here. Only this dough doesn’t have raw eggs in it. So it is safe to eat it. Many crazy creations are made from it! Especially in America, where you have cake with layers of cookie dough and ice cream with pieces of cookie dough in it. But there are also cookie dough cafes and shops where you can buy cookie dough products with different flavours and toppings.
In the Netherlands a lot of people will remember ice cream with cookie dough, especially the one from Ben & Jerry’s! For my fellow Dutch who are curious about an all cookie dough concepts are very lucky now! The first cookie dough bar has opened in Rotterdam!
This cookie dough bar in Rotterdam is called Baker’s Dough. It is from the owners of Baker&More, a lunchroom where you can come for breakfast, lunch, high tea or just for relaxing or do some work. At Baker’s Dough there is always a queue. So plan your trip to the bar well, or else you will be waiting forever for your piece of dough. I visited the bar on a very sunny Sunday during the afternoon hours. There was a queue, but not as long as I have seen before. While waiting in the queue you could already see what different options there were.
Did you know that the cookie dough you can choose from also has different flavours? You can choose between flavours like Peanut Butter & White chocolate or Salty Caramel & Brownie & Walnut. Then you choose your topping, which can vary from lots of sweets and chocolates or healthy versions with fruits. Additionally you can choose to make it perfect with different flavours of ice cream. They also have specials, where they have already decided on the dough and toppings.
My friend and I both took the small size, because we heard that medium and large has too much dough. I choose the Pop Ya Color with original baker’s dough, fresh jam, blueberries, strawberries and rainbow sprinkles and I added the Tony’s Chocolonely ice cream. My friend chose the Loko for the Choco with Salty Caramel & Brownie dough, M&M’s, Nutella, Salted Caramel chocolate from Tony’s Chocolonely and she added a scoop of yoghurt ice cream.
This way of choosing your own topping makes me think of customizing your own frozen yoghurt. Like the one from Frozz. This is one of my favourite kind of ice cream.
As you can see on the photos it looks very nicely decorated. I really loved mine, because there was a good balance between ‘healthy’ and ‘unhealthy’. The dough tasted like normal cookie dough and the flavours fit well together. It is good that I added some ice cream with it for the fresh light taste, because the dough felt quite heavy and also a lot. Two or three bites were already enough for me. It was as big as one scoop of ice cream. I prefer little pieces of cookie dough like the one you can find within the cookie dough ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s.
If you cannot finish your dough, that is no problem. Baker’s dough gives the suggestion of using the rest of your dough to bake a cookie out of it. Depending on your oven you can bake it into a cookie within 8 till 10 minutes on 180 degrees. I tried it with a cookie dough with red velvet and white chocolate and another one with coffee and mokka flavour. The cookies stay soft, it’s like those big American cookies. The red velvet had a subtle flavour, but I like the coffee and mokka flavour. It is really present in the cookie!
Baker’s Dough is worth to try, especially when you crave for the cookie dough. I hope they will add more healthy toppings. You can buy a cookie dough for on to go or for sitting at their tables with a good cup of coffee. At the moment you have to go to Rotterdam for it, but they are planning to open one in Amsterdam.
