Poké Bowl Original opens second store in Rotterdam

Poké Bowl, this delicious healthy bowl with rice, fish and vegetables, is getting more popular here in the Netherlands. In August 2016 the first store was opened by Poké Bowl Original in the Hoogstraat in Rotterdam and they just opened another store in Rotterdam. This one is at the Karel Doormanstraat and I attended their grand opening.
Poké Bowl is not the same as the Poké Balls from the popular Japanese anime Pokémon. It’s not even Asian, it’s Hawaiian. A traditional Poké Bowl consist of sushi rice with fresh tuna marinated in soy sauce and sesame seed. Nowadays there are tons of variations with fish, meat and vegetarian options which you can mix together with vegetables to make your own bowl.
When I visited the new store, I saw it is much bigger than the one at the Hoogstraat. It is very white and clean with some Hawaiian decoration. I think it would be better to have more decoration to give it a more warmer and more Hawaiian feel.

During the opening I could try out some of their dishes, like the traditional Poké Bowl with tuna and a vegetarian one with tofu. I really love the mixture of flavour.

We also got sushi rolls, one with omelet and one with ham and to give it a more the tropical feel we got refreshing drinks with hibiscus or jasmine tea which is beautifully decorated with a slice of pineapple and little umbrellas. I have tried hibiscus before and I find it quite sour, but this one wasn’t that sour. It was quite refreshing.

Healthy cakes by SUE

Later on, we also got cakes that are made by SUE, a store opposite to the new Poké Bowl store. They sells delicious cakes and other snacks that are very healthy. They are free from gluten, sugar and lactose and they are raw and vegan.
With cakes I always think it should be full of sugar and fat. And with vegan and raw I always think it is tasteless. SUE proves the opposite! We could try cakes with different flavours, like coconut, snickers, raspberry and lavendel. I was really curious about the lavendel one and when I tried it, I was completely sold! It was full of flavour, but not overwhelming and it had a soft structure. Their cakes are really worth a try!

I hardly come to the Karel Doormanstraat, but it is a really cosy street with a nice variety of restaurants to eat, drink and chill. Poké Bowl Original is a worthy addition to this street.
